Moving day checklist

Good preparation saves time and money — a man with a van is paid by time, and well-prepared things load much faster.

A week before
- Book your man with a van — especially if you're moving at the end of the month
- Get rid of what you don't need: what you don't take, you don't pack or carry
- Get boxes, tape and wrapping material
- Start packing things you don't use every day
The day before
- Switch off and defrost the fridge
- Take apart large furniture that won't go out in one piece
- Pack a bag with essentials: documents, chargers, medicine, a change of clothes
- Make sure you know where the van can stop at both addresses
On moving day
- Clear the way from the door to the van
- If there's a lift, make sure you can use it
- Stack boxes by the door — loading goes faster
- After loading, walk through every room and cupboard once more
